First edition of the foundational catalogue of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters’s library, The Gunnerus-library. Today it is the oldest scientific library in Norway, founded in 1768. It contains rich collections spanning from early modern science to natural history, archaeology, genealogy and cultural history.

Lorents Wittrup (1742 - 1811), Norwegian theologian in Tronheim who also functioned as the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters’s librarian.

The catalogue thus represents not only a fine picture of the library’s early holdings but also serves as a seminal document in understanding the early development of scientific institutions in Norway.
The catalogue is of the utmost scarcity and we have not been able to trace a single copy in the trade.
