Rare first edition of Leiningen’s main work being an interpretation of the Apocalypse of John. The last book of the Bible had been removed from the preaching canon by Luther due to its interpretive difficulties, however, in pietistic circles, it became a central text precisely because of its speculative nature.
Amalia von Leiningen (1684-1756) was convinced that she was living in the end times and awaited the Second Coming of the Lord, as prophesied in the Gospels and the Apocalypse.
