8vo. In contemporary full sprinkled calf with four raised bands and and gilt lettering and ornamentation to spine. Wear to extremities, stains and scratches to boards. Foot of spine with  loss of leather. Inner lower margin with damp-stain, primarily affecting first and last few leaves, otherwise internally nice and clean. (24), 134, (6) pp. 

Rare first edition of Tallemant’s French translation of Plutarch’s ‘The Life of Marcellus’ - The fullest extant account of Marcus Claudius Marcellus (c. 270 – 208 BC) was a Roman general and politician during the 3rd century BC and five times elected as consul of the Roman Republic.
