First edition of Henri Becquerel's importent study of the magnetic substances in which he sets forth his discovery that "the magnetic rotation of the bodies is connected with their refractive index and with another function that varies with their specific magnetism". For the first time it was showed that there is a connexion between the rotatory power and the magnetic properties of matter.
